“Engineering Gives You Wings” is more than just a slogan for Robotics Team Icarus #2081, which is going to the FIRST National Championship in St. Louis, MO from April 23-26, 2014. Under the guidance of dedicated mentors and in collaboration with a Bradley University professor, these students have used their burgeoning skills in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects to create two socially assistive robots (SAR) – Al Yuminium and Alice Yuminium – for research with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Recognizing the significant impact of this ground-breaking collaboration between researchers and students in STEM, FIRST judges awarded Team Icarus the Wisconsin Regional’s Engineering Inspiration Award for 2014, which provides a NASA-sponsored invitation to Nationals.
