Parents/Guardians-Welcome Back to Another Great Year at Notre Dame!
We are very pleased with the start of our new school year, with 12 new positions filled; it has been a very busy time getting everyone adjusted to their new environment. Having said that, the administration is very pleased with our new hires as they continue to grow in their new positions at Notre Dame. Also, as we have adjusted the new start time to 8:00, we appreciate your cooperation in making sure your child(ren) are here daily and on time. I look forward to a great school year and the opportunity to meet everybody throughout our year. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please notify us so we can help. Campus Ministry:

Dear Irish Family,

As Campus Ministry events have begun, we have had wonderful participation so far. Approximately 200 students have joined Teens for Life and 50 have signed up for small groups, which meet Wednesdays during advisory to share faith and fellowship.

Lumen Christi Mass and Hike at Starved Rock State Park September 27th 9am-5pm

Also if your Catholic son enjoys serving Mass and would like some CSP hours. I am looking to have a daily Mass server for each day of the week. Currently, I have a server for Tuesday mornings. Mass times are 7:15am M, T, Th, F, and 11:35am W. For commitment to one day in a trimester, the student can earn 5 hours of service. They can come speak to me at school.

Shadow Visits begin October 1st
Shadow visits are a great way for prospective students (incoming freshmen or transfers) to see what PND is like from a student’s perspective. Shadow visits are available October 1 – May 1. You may pick up a blue shadow form from the PND main office or register online at

8th Grade Visit Day – October 15, 2015
Thursday, October 15th from 9:30 – 11:00am is our 8th Grade Visit Day! We are excited to welcome the Class of 2020 to tour the school and take part in the infamous “PND Scavenger Hunt” throughout the building. If your son or daughter does not attend one of the Catholic grade schools in the Peoria area, but would like to attend, please email with his/her name and school – we would love for him or her to join us!

8th Grade Placement Exam – October 31st, 2015
Registration is now open for the 8th Grade Placement Exam! The placement test will be on Saturday, October 31st from 7:45am – 11:30am. Please register online by October 9th at

Irish Kid’s Club
New this year, the Irish Kids Club is for all students PreK-8th grade. Membership in the Irish Kids Club includes a season pass for ALL home sporting events for the 2015-2016 school year (excluding the football game at Dozer Park), a Kid’s Club t-shirt, access to special events at PND athletic events, and MORE!

Our first special event for members will be “Tye Dye” Night at the Men’s Soccer game on September 24th!

Counselors have been busy meeting with students during advisory. We had a senior advisory meeting on September 2 to discuss the college application process. Counselors met with freshmen during advisory on August 31 and with sophomores during advisory on September 9. The purpose of these meetings was to introduce the counseling staff and services we provide for students and families.

We are excited to work with the students and families this school year. Please note the following upcoming dates:
Parent Board College Night – Wednesday, September 16 from 6:00-8:00. Counselors will be available to meet with you individually to answer questions along with visiting college admission representatives.

College Lunch Room Visits:
September 14th: University of Notre Dame
September 16th: McKendree University
September 17th: Bradley University & Millikin University

Fall Trimester “Coffee with Counselors” – Friday, October 9 at 9:00a.m. in the teacher lounge. The main focus of discussion will be the college application process and what is important for families to know.

Also, please save the date for the first FAFSA workshop to be held at PND. On December 7 at 6:00 pm in the auditorium the counselors will be hosting a FAFSA workshop. We are excited that Janet Ozuna, from Midstate College and financial aid expert will be explaining FAFSA line by line.

If your student filled out a registration card for ICC dual credit, please note the payment deadline is October 1. Payments should be made online through the student’s ICC eservices account. If you or your student has questions or concerns about this, please have them contact Kris Montelongo in the counseling center.

From the Parent/Student Handbook:
In order to participate in school-sponsored activities, students are required to meet eligibility standards. Any student wishing to participate, practice or compete in school sponsored activities/ events that are held on a school day must be in attendance by 9:15 AM. The only exceptions for arriving after 9:15 AM are medical appointments, judicial appointments or attending a funeral. The Principal and Dean will determine on an individual basis circumstances beyond the control of the student. Students must return to school with a medical note, a judicial note, or note from parent/guardian if the student has attended a funeral to be eligible to participate, practice, compete or work in as career development program placement. The student is required to present the note even though the parents/guardians have called to verify the absence each day of the student’s absence from school.

Parent Board:

The Parent Board is hosting our annual College Night on Wednesday, September 16th from 6-8pm. All grade levels are invited. The night will begin with a brief introduction in the auditorium and will consist of three 20-minute sessions with college reps of your choice. Additional time will be available at the end to meet with additional colleges or the PND Counselors. Boosters: The Booster Merchandise Trailer will be open at home varsity football games on September 18 (Richwoods), October 2 (Dozer Park/Homecoming) and October 17 (Stadium). We will still have PND Football t-shirts available for $5 in sizes S-XL. Help us make room for new inventory and don’t miss out on this great closeout-pricing deal.

Boosters are hitting the home stretch in sales for this year’s raffle. Tickets are only $20 with prizes of $5,000; $1,500 and $500 cash. Contact a parent rep or Rhonda Parker ( or Rick Schuler (rs to purchase a ticket. Drawing will be at the October 2 Homecoming game.

There’s still time to join the Boosters this school year. Basic membership levels are $10 and $15, with sponsorship levels at $50 and $100. We are also still accepting sponsorships for our fence banners, gym monitor, website and schedules. Contact Rhonda Parker or Rick Schuler for information on memberships or sponsorships.

Fine Arts:

Drama: This year’s fall play is Any Number Can Die, a comedy-murder mystery in three acts. The piece is set in the 1920s on Raven’s Head, an island off the coast of the Carolinas. The relatives of the Old Cedric Russell gather on the island during a terrible storm where the will is to read at midnight. There are uninvited guests, faulty lights, a cryptic poem, and a missing fortune at stake as two elderly detectives work their first case. The play will be performed on November 12, 13, and 14 at 7:30 PM each night. Tickets will be available in early November.

Choir: Choir parents, please check the calendar and announcements on the choir website daily. The regular schedule and any changes will be posted on the calendar page. If you have not been receiving emails from Mrs. Strauss, please contact her at We need choir parents to help with fundraising, yard signs and hemming formal wear.

Band: We started the year with a very successful marching band camp the week of August 17th! Dr. Scott Edgar (Lake Forest College) was our camp clinician. Our halftime show this year is music from the 1980’s musical Blues Brothers. You still have four chances to see us perform at a home game! This year, we welcome Mr. Justin Lindsey as our drumline instructor and Ms. Caylee Kennedy as our color guard / flag coach. Saturday, September 12th, we are headed to Northern Illinois University for Band Day. We will perform the “Fall Out Boy” halftime show with the NIU Marching Huskies and other high schools from across the state. Thank you for your support! English Department: Thomas Laird, English teacher at PND, will have several books published, this fall. Endeavour Press of the UK will publish NINE ONE TWO and MY BROTHER’S KEEPER in ebooks, and they will re-issue ebook versions of CUTTER, SEASON OF THE ASSASSIN, and BLACK DOG. Ecanus Publishers will issue the paperback version of THE RUIN OF SOULS in September, 2015, and the ebook version came out in April, 2015. All the books will be available on Amazon.

Nurse’s Office: ATTN SENIORS: IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION – Beginning with the 2015-2016 School Year, all students entering the 12th grade will be required to show proof of two Meningococcal Meningitis vaccines with the second dose being given on or after their 16th birthday. (Only one dose of Meningococcal Meningitis vaccine is needed for the 12th grade of the student, if the first dose was given at 16 years or later).
Please check your student’s immunization records and schedule an appointment if needed. Any questions, please call Mrs.Patti Keegan, RN @ 691-8741. The deadline is October 1, 2015.

ATTN FRESHMAN: Every Freshman student is required to have an updated medical physical on file. The physical needs to include an updated list of all required immunizations. Please schedule an appointment if needed and turn in completed physical to Mrs.Patti Keegan, RN. The deadline is October 1, 2015.


Safe Environment Training will be held on September 21, 2015, 6:00-7:30pm in PND Auditorium.
Please arrive a few minutes early because once the training starts you cannot be let in.

Homecoming 2015 will be the week of September 28 – October 3. The theme of the week is
Back to the Future.

The girls will play Powderpuff Football on Wednesday evening (7:15) coached by the senior football players. On Thursday the students will play the games of our Homecoming Olympics during an afternoon assembly. Thursday at 7:00 is the Pep Rally in our gym. The band, dance team and cheerleaders will perform; the videos will be shown, and the Homecoming Queen and her Court will be announced.

Friday will include the Homecoming Mass at which the Alum of the Year will be announced and he or she will speak to the students. Friday evening is the football game against Normal West played at Dozer Field! The parade will leave from the St. Mark’s parking lot at 6:00 and proceed down Main Street to the field. Look for upcoming information regarding a special raffle that will be held.

Homecoming Dance: Saturday, October 3 from 8:00-10:30 p.m.
● Students must arrive by 8:30 and may leave after the recognition of the Homecoming Court at 10:00
● Tickets will be on sale the week of September 28th at all lunch hours. Cost is $5 per person
● Formal photography will not be available, but a photo booth will be on site to provide complimentary photos as souvenirs
● Guest forms are available through the Dean’s Office

SAVE THE DATE PARENT OF JUNIORS: Ring Day Mass is Friday, October 30 at 10:00. Students that did not order a class ring can bring another item in to be blessed and received at the mass. All junior parents are invited. More information will be coming.

Auction 2016

This year auction will be held on February 27, 2016 at the Embassy Suites. This is the largest fundraiser for the school. We need everyone’s help to pull it off. You can donate an item, cash, be on a committee, or help to decorate and set up for the day.
