ATHLETICS
Throughout history, Peoria Notre Dame has always had a proud athletic tradition. On-field successes and experiences have helped form strong character and winning spirits among Peoria Notre Dame graduates. At Peoria Notre Dame, we believe that past accomplishments and traditions need to be remembered, but we are also concerned with new triumphs. We invite you to be a part of our tradition so you can develop your athletic skills and exceed your expectations. Peoria Notre Dame is a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and the Mid-State Six. Below is a list of the sports we offer along with some of our finest athletic accomplishments.
Sports for Men
Fall: Football, Cross-Country, Soccer, and Golf
Winter: Basketball, Club Hockey, Swimming, Diving, and Wrestling
Spring: Baseball, Tennis, and Track and Field
Sports for Women
Fall: Cheerleading, Cross-Country, Golf, Swimming, Tennis, and Volleyball
Winter: Basketball, Cheerleading
Spring: Soccer, Softball, and Track and Field
All Year: Dance Team
CLUBS
ANCHOR CLUB – Membership to this community service organization is by invitation only.
BAND – Membership is open to all interested students. Students are graded and may receive a fine arts credit. See the Band Director for a rehearsal and performance schedule.
CHEERLEADING – Membership is open to all by audition. Listen to announcements for times.
CONCERT CHOIR – Membership is open to all students who wish to enroll in this 3:00 pm class. Practices are every Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
DANCE TEAM – Membership is open to all by audition. Listen to announcements for times.
DEBATE TEAM- Members of the debate team engage in argument by discussing opposing points. Students prepare with each other, are guided by qualified coaches, and compete against other schools.
DRAMA CLUB – Membership is open to all students. Auditions will be held in the fall and spring. Listen to announcements for audition times.
FRENCH CLUB – Membership is open to all students. Meeting and times will be upon the request of members.
GAEL LITERARY MAGAZINE- Each year students submit literary, poetic, and artistic pieces of work for publication in this spring issued magazine.
GERMAN CLUB – Membership is open to all students. Meetings are as scheduled, beginning in October. Listen to announcements for times.
IRISH GUARD (FLAG CORPS) – Membership is open to all by audition. Irish Guard performs with the band when they march in parades and for the 8th grade open house. Tryouts are in May and September with practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Listen to announcements for times.
IRISH PRIDE – Membership is open to any student who wishes to promote pride in our school.
JAZZ CHOIR – Membership is open by audition. This is a jazz, pop, Broadway group with some choreography; however, members do not need a dance background. Practices are on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Auditions are held the third week of school.
KEY CLUB – Membership is open to all students in this service organization which meets every Tuesday morning in the library.
LATIN CLUB – Membership is open to all students. Latin games and songs will be learned. Meetings are twice a month.
LITURGY SINGERS – Membership is open to all students interested in providing music for the school Masses. Students will also receive hours for a Christian Service Project.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY – Membership is open only to juniors and seniors who qualify academically. Initiation is in the spring.
NEWSPAPER – Membership is open to all students. A special homeroom is available to students wishing to work on the newspaper in Mr. Irwin’s room.
PING PONG TEAM- Membership is open to all students. Intramural and organized yearly tournaments take place.
SCHOLASTIC TEAM – Membership is open to all students, but because of the content of the quiz questions, upper classmen are encouraged to participate. It’s based on a jeopardy-type format with five members competing.
SPANISH CLUB – Membership is open to all students. Listen to announcements for meeting times.
SPEECH TEAM – Membership is open to all students. Listen to announcements for meeting times.
SOCIAL JUSTICE- Membership is open to all students. This club promotes social justice teachings of the Catholic Church.
STUDENT AMBASSADORS – This group of primarily upper classmen represents PND during visits to and from grade schools. They are outgoing, well-spoken and willing to represent PND very proudly.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT – Membership is by student election. Freshmen elections will be held after the first six weeks. All students are encouraged to participate in the activities planned by their class representatives.
TEENS FOR LIFE – Membership is open to all students interested in pro-life and chastity education. Members must be committed to these important issues in their own lives, as well as be involved in school/community activities that support these areas. Listen to announcements for meeting times.
YEARBOOK – Membership is open to all students. Attendance will be required for participation.
