TALES FROM THE FRONT

  • You cannot start in East Hallway, go to your locker in the West Hallway and return to class in the East Hallway in four minutes.
  • Check your map. There is a hallway in front of the library.
  • Find your bathroom on one of your earlier tours.
  • Go with the flow of traffic in the hallways.
  • Tape your schedule on one of your folders -- it will be less obvious what you are looking at.
  • Tape your map of the school on that same folder.
  • Find a good time in your schedule to use the rest room.
  • You will not be able to return to your locker before each class.
  • Be nice to the front office staff.
  • Learn the names of the custodians.

  • IRISH DAYS

  • Find a path to your class and stick to it.
  • Be prepared for honors classes -- they are called honors for a reason.
  • Questions? Ask your teachers
  • Be prepared for a lot of homework. Work ahead at any opportunity. You will get used to the homework but at first it will seem overwhelming.
  • Write down everything in your Planner.
  • Check the board at the beginning of the period -- the teacher may put the homework for the week on the board and expect you to write it down. The teacher may not mention it until it is due.
  • Don't procrastinate!
  • If no homework is assigned, read over your notes and chapter -- you may have a pop quiz.
  • If you feel sick and go home during the day, take all of your books home so you can make up your homework as soon as possible.
  • Be on time for your classes. This includes homeroom.
  • Read ahead in English. It is the easiest way to get ahead.
  • Take a pencil and pen to each class.
  • Do all of the extra credit offered. You may not need it then, but you might need it later.
  • Stash a pencil anywhere you can! You never know when you'll need it.
  • Make a good first impression. You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.
  • Study early for finals. Finish all study sheets as soon as possible.
  • If a teacher writes something on the board -- consider it important.
  • Find a partner in class and exchange phone numbers -- if you are sick, you can exchange assignments.
  • Wear a watch to help time yourself during exams.
  • Be careful with your textbooks. You will be charged for any excessive damage done to them.
  • Get a pass before you leave the class to go to the rest room, drinking fountain, or library.

  • LOCKERS

  • Purchase a locker organizer -- you'll use it for four years and it will help organize your books.
  • Do not leave valuable items unattended at any time.
  • Don't jam your lockers.
  • Don't share lockers or your locker combination.
  • Memorize your locker combination. Put it in your wallet or purse until you memorize it. Don't lock it in your locker.
  • Organize your books in your lockers.
  • Be assertive with the person who has the locker above you -- you have to get to your class, too!
  • Your parents need your locker combination in case you are sick and they need to pick up your books.
  • Lock your gym locker.
  • Do not give your locker combination out to others -- except your parents.

  • ESSENTIALS

  • The Chapel is open all day for your own spiritual growth. Mass is held in the Chapel every morning at 7:15 A.M. for the students and faculty.
  • If you are sick, plan on arriving at school early or staying late in order to talk to your teachers about make up work. Upon your return to class do NOT ask, "Did you do anything when I was gone?"
  • Tests need to be made up before or after school, since most freshman do not have a study hall. If you are involved in a sport, please plan accordingly!
  • On Monday if a teacher announces a test for Wednesday and you miss school Tuesday, guess who still takes the test?
